  • Why Use an Engineered Oak Weather Bar on External Doors?

An engineered oak weather bar is a practical and attractive addition to external doors, helping to improve weather protection, durability, and overall door performance. Fitted to the bottom edge of an external door, it works alongside a threshold to reduce water ingress, draughts, and heat loss.

    Enhanced Weather Protection

The primary purpose of a weather bar is to deflect rainwater away from the bottom of the door. By directing water away from the threshold, it helps prevent moisture penetration and reduces the risk of leaks, dampness, and water damage.

    Improved Draught Reduction

When paired with a suitable threshold seal, an engineered oak weather bar helps minimise air gaps beneath the door, reducing unwanted draughts and improving indoor comfort throughout the year.

    Better Thermal Efficiency

By helping to create a tighter seal at the base of the door, a weather bar contributes to improved insulation and can help reduce heat loss, making your property more energy efficient.

    Engineered for Stability

Unlike solid timber, engineered oak is manufactured using multiple layers of timber bonded together. This construction provides greater stability and reduces the likelihood of:

    • Warping
    • Twisting
    • Bowing
    • Shrinkage

This makes engineered oak particularly suitable for external applications where exposure to changing temperatures and moisture levels can affect natural timber.

    Attractive Oak Finish

Engineered oak weather bars offer the timeless appearance of real oak, complementing timber external doors and providing a premium, high-quality finish.

    Long-Term Durability

The engineered construction provides excellent strength and resistance to everyday wear, ensuring reliable performance in exposed locations over many years.

Suitable for New Build and Renovation Projects

Whether installing a new external door or upgrading an existing entrance, an engineered oak weather bar is a simple way to improve weather resistance while maintaining a traditional timber appearance.

    Supports Door Longevity

By helping to keep water away from the bottom edge of the door, a weather bar can reduce moisture-related deterioration and help extend the lifespan of the door and frame.

    Ideal Applications

    • Front entrance doors
    • Back doors
    • Side entrance doors
    • Timber external doors
    • Residential properties
    • Commercial entrances

It is important that you or an agreed party is available to check and sign for goods delivered – if any packaging is damaged please check that this has not gone through to the item below – If damaged is detected on delivery please do not accept and return with the courier – A good tip is to photograph doors/worktops on arrival

If the courier has arranged delivery with you and when he arrives there is no one there items will not be left – you will have to book another delivery slot and pay for an extra delivery

The returns cost is higher than delivery as they have the reasonability to check the goods and provide insurance to cover to the total of the retail price

We try to deliver most orders within an estimated 5 – 10 working days. We are based in sheffield so please bare that in mind and call us if you are unsure

When doors are transported they could be transported stood up, on their side or flat. Transporting doors is not where they require to be stored flat. Transporting is not where they need to be in their acclimatising state. As soon as they are delivered to your property they require inspecting, removing from any packaging and laying flat as it is at this point they need to acclimatise which will then prevent twisting, warping and bowing

Depending on your area and availability some items could take longer, we will make you aware of this at the point of you placing your order, all dates given are estimated and can move, we only use specialised door couriers to avoid damages, the low delivery costs reflect this

If items are out of stock or are bespoke made delivery can take longer and dates given are always estimated dates and they can move, this is out of our control (Estimated dates are provided by the factory) – Bespoke made doors are non-returnable/refundable unless faulty. The bespoke made doors are made by a third-party supplier we do not make inhouse this will be clearly listed on the product page with a BRAND NAME, whether made in the UK or overseas, lead times can be longer and we must stress this. We always estimate they are not exact given timescales. COMPENSATION & DISCOUNT will not be given for longer delays. Please make sure you are happy with this before you place your order as placing your order and accepting the terms & conditions you are accepting the information we have given. When ordering bespoke doors if you are awaiting while building control to asses your property, we highly recommend you install temporary doors and not rely on lead times as they are estimated and can move. As soon as the doors arrive with doors & floors galore it is in both parties’ interest to deliver these.

DELIVERY IS CURB SIDE ONLY

Treatment

TREATMENT

PLEASE DO NOT IGNORE HOW TO STORE AND TREAT YOUR DOORS

Section 1 – All doors are to be inspected on delivery for obvious damage which will be visible when in clear packaging, for doors which are not in fully clear packaging we allow a further 48 hours to inspect the covered areas and must be reported in this time scale, we will not accept claims that would be clearly visible after this time. Doors need to be unpacked and laid flat to allow to acclimatise in a dry area inside a secure property for 48 hours. They should never be stored stood up or on their sides. They must not be near, wet paint or freshly plastered rooms.

External Timber Unfinished doors – Are to be treated with a solvent based system (whether painting or using a woodstain) prior to hanging. Not water based, not fast drying, not a wax or an oil. Do not use wood preservers. Primer, then undercoat, then 2 top coats (all solvent based). Once pre-treated & hung then any area’s that are modified after fitting will require full treatment as above to seal the door (hinge area, latch, lock, letterbox, top bottom, sides etc), as once modified by a joiner the area’s become un-treated which will be visible – Ideally remove the door after fitted and complete modified areas inside as all fitted handles, locks hinges etc will require removing. This would not be recommended completing outside as moisture can get into areas that have been modified. We advise using a temporary door or the old door using a temporary door whilst doing this, once completed then hang – see terms on www.doorsgalore.co.uk. Over time if your door starts to look weathered you will need to maintain the product as it is not composite it is a natural product which will weather, wear and breakdown over time if not maintained.

Internal Doors (Primed) – Section 1 is to be followed – then to be treated with a solvent based paint prior to hanging undercoat and then a top coat (all solvent based). Not water based, not fast drying, not a wax or an oil. Do not use wood preservers. Once pre-treated & hung then any area’s that are modified after fitting will require full treatment starting with a primer coat as this will have been removed by the joiner and would be visible

Internal Doors (unfinished) – Section 1 is to be followed – then to be treated with a solvent based paint or wood stain prior to hanging, primer, undercoat and then a top coat (all solvent based). Not water based, not fast drying, not a wax or an oil. Do not use wood preservers. Once pre-treated & hung then any area’s that are modified after fitting will require full treatment starting with a primer coat as this will have been removed by the joiner and would be visible

Pre-Finished Doors – Section 1 is to be followed – any area’s that are modified after fitting will require treating, if pre finished oak a clear solvent based wood stain needs applying 2-3 coats, not water based, not a wax or an oil.
